In the project room we present the first exhibition of the photoartist Christine Schindler from Hamburg.
The artist is born near Stuttgart in 1968. At the age of 15 she buys her first SLR camera. Photography, for her, becomes a means to formatively communicate subjects and values. Since taking up her studies in Rosenheim in 1983, the camera is her permanent companion on many international travels. Several visits to the Pityusian island of Ibiza inspire the artist, from 2001 onwards, to set her artistic wits to this place of magic.
Christine Schindler describes the fascination of these places: „The intensive sunlight strengthens the remaining colors, which for me equals life, generating an appealing tension of a morbid aesthetic.“ In many of the photographs the artist achieves a densification of real scenes, putting them into contrasts full of suspense. Bizarre situations heighten and intensify each other, irritating the attentive beholder, offering an unreal, partly inconceivable contrast.
„IBIZA – Periphery is everywhere“ has secretive historical places of the mystical islands, sunk into oblivion for decades, for its subject. History and growing urbanization melt into each other in the photographs; by turning reality into images they create a direct relationship between the past and present discrepancies. The photographs question the mysticism of the genius loci and decrypt unique atmospheres.
