Biography

Born 1969 in Bamberg, the artist has, since 2011, devoted herself to photography. Following the tradition of Impressionism, she works with the play of light and color and form. By means of a focus on details, Astrid Lowack creates a hyper level that relegates realist portrayal to the background in favor of her own independent interpretation. The artworks of this internationally aspiring artist disclose feelings and moods via the vibes and the flow of the colors. Her element is the light, whose beguiling and poetic presence radiates in her photos. Astrid Lowack’s photographs have that rare robustness of steel that can be found in Baroque church vaults when they open out into utterly abstract heaven-scapes. The viewer can hardly withstand the photographic effect of her works. He/she must engage in an encounter with color and light that cannot be expressed in labels or concepts. Such aesthetic manifestations can create nothing as triumphant as that of an untenable reality.

Astrid Lowack lives and works in the region around Amsterdam.
